Wet n Wild : Photofocus [Review]

Hello, beauties! I hope you are all doing well and have had an amazing week!

Let’s talk about the Wet n Wild Photofocus foundation, sadly here in South Africa, every release is so delayed.So much so, that we have third party resellers, which can sometimes come with a hefty price tag, you can read more on that in a post I did a while back. Or we end up importing beauty products, which is cheaper but can be a painful process!

Two weeks ago I stumbled upon this hidden gem in Clicks Sandton.There were only 2 colours on the shelf, and a total of 4 bottles, with no testers. The ladies there were so awesome, they opened one for me to test, even though there were no official testers available yet. Wet n Wild we know there are more shades available, please can we improve our selection options?

Never the less it matched! To be honest, even if it didn’t, I would have taken it anyway and made it work! Because we now have all these fancy custom drops, and flash palettes, that we can make anything match, it’s pretty awesome.

Down to business

Packaging

It’s a glass bottle with a paddle type of applicator, but I don’t like to use those to apply any product directly to my face, and then put it back, because I am the “beauty” person in my group of friends. If someone needs to come over and do their make-up, it wouldn’t be very hygienic. Also, attempting to dip the spatula in the bottle and letting it drip onto my mixing plate takes forever, so I pour because I’m lazy and the foundation is pretty liquid. Not a train smash for me, but a pump would have been awesome.

Application

I love a blending sponge as most of the world does, and because my skin is dry, a brush doesn’t ALWAYS work out well for me. I recently received the bare minerals brush in my boxycharm and the divot in the centre seems to suck up all my product, but it blends like a dream. I obviously tried this with a sponge too, that option takes away from the coverage, but it is flawless.

So with this foundation, I would say it depends on what you’re going for. If you just want to even out your complexion and don’t have a lot of covering to do, then a sponge is the way to go. If however, you are looking to cover, you should definitely use a brush.

For me personally, I like a bit of both, because I’m extra like that, so I apply with a brush first, buffing the foundation into the skin, then let it sit for about 2 mins, while I sip on some coffee and then go in with a sponge. This gives me the best coverage and it is flawless.

Finish

It’s kind of a satin matte type finish. On my skin it looked like a more natural finish, definitely not dewy nor is it super matte. And for someone with dry skin, I find it so comfortable. I love it. The first time I wore this though, I thought I hated it because I touch my face a lot and don’t use alot of powder, so it disappeared throughout the day, I know, that’s a rookie mistake! But as I get more acquainted with it, the more I love it

Wear test

I usually get ready pretty early in the morning, so by 5:30 am, my face is on. And I usually only get home at around 5 pm, the face doesn’t come off immediately, I cook first and do some chores, so my face typically comes off around 7:30 pm and by that time it still looked amazing!

No separation or caking anywhere! It was so flawless and I didn’t want to take it off! To be clear, I don’t carry a makeup bag at all, so I don’t touch up anything throughout the day, and my makeup usually stays put, but this one really looked exceptional.

Re-Purchase

Um duh! it’s affordable, it only costs R99.00, That’s $7.00, it’s amazing. I love it. Yes, I would most definitely re-purchase this one. But #wetnwild if you happen to see this post, please consider a pump!

Flash Photography

I honestly don’t know, I am not a selfie person, and even when I do take a picture, it’s usually in natural light, so I wouldn’t be able to tell you anyway! Sorry guys, maybe one day when I am bigger I will learn how to take a selfie, (any tips are welcome ;))

So there you have it, rating 9 out of 10. I have to deduct a point for that spatula!
