Review: {The Ordinary} Glycolic Acid Toning Solution

Welcome back, I know my posts are not on a schedule but sometimes life just get’s busy. Anyway, I got The Ordinary Glycolic Acid Toning Solution a few months ago because I had to see what all the hype was about. I purchased mine from (@Thelittleblaqboutique) on Instagram for a total of R360, which included shipping (via courier). I didn’t mind this price because that included shipping to me via courier, so I think it was pretty reasonable, what do you think?

Ok, so 2018 is turning out to be a lot about skincare, this was completely unintentional, but it seems that is the way the beauty world is going. There seems to be a huge emphasis on skincare and I love it.

Before purchasing/using this I had never tried any acids. I have been dying to try the Pixi glow tonic, I am just not sure if I want to pay R700.00 for 250ml from Samika or approx R305 from cultbeauty with possible shipping from Aramex of R199.00.

If however you have tried it please let me know your thoughts, or if you’re a blogger a link to your review ;).

So let’s get down to business, the reason you clicked the link

What is Glycolic Acid

Glycolic acid falls into a category of effective active compounds known as alpha hydroxy acids (AHAs). According to dermatology expert Dr. Heather Brannon, these acids come in five different types:
° Glycolic acid, from sugar cane
° Lactic acid, from milk
° Citric acid, from oranges and lemons
° Malic acid, from apples and pears
° Tartaric acids, from grapes

The Ordinary Glycolic Acid Toning Solution

Day One:

Holy h3ll did my face burn, I did not anticipate that kind reaction at all. My skin literally felt like I had applied acid, but I mean pure acid. But I just used a gel-cream the Nivea Hydroboost gel cream to be precise, which seemed to sooth it immediately. So as you can imagine I was like maybe this is not for my skin type (Dry & Sensitive). I started wondering if everyone on the internet was lying to me like they all got paid to say good things about The Ordinary.

Day Two:

I actually skipped a day because I wasn’t sure if I wanted to carry on burning my face off. But then I did some research and I found out that for first-time users this is a possible reaction. So I decided to power through.

My face burnt every day for a week, but I wasn’t going to take a chance, so I sent the ordinary an email, I must say their service was awesome. They responded almost immediately and again explained that it is normal, but I should try using it every other day until I built up a tolerance.

Once I had that information it took me around 2 weeks to get to a point where I could use it every night and I can’t say it lightened any marks or anything but I have had almost no pimples since I started with it, not even the hormonal ones.

My skin is so much softer and definitely more radiant. So when I started with the Sunday Riley, I stopped using it for about 2 weeks to give that product a fair chance.

And as I said in that post the Sunday Riley was amazing, but together these felt like a powerhouse! I thoroughly enjoyed this product once it stopped burning lol.

I will, however, warn you to ALWAYS use sunscreen once you start on this, I have some discolouration on my cheeks and the day after the first use I forgot my sunscreen and the marks actually did get darker, so please be aware of this. Use Sunscreen (even when you’re not using acids).

But then I got all my ducks in a row and it didn’t get any worse or any better for that matter, which doesn’t really bother me because my skin was smooth and radiant!

Final Verdict:

Love it, would definitely recommend it. If you have dry sensitive skin just be aware of the burning and using sunscreen religiously, and give your skin a chance to get used to it. Other than that it is awesome! For the affordability factor, I would say compared to Pixi, yes it is affordable, but compared to Garnier or Nivea, not at all, but that depends on what you want to achieve!

That was a long sermon hey! But this is an open forum so leave your thoughts on this product in the comments section so we can all benefit from all the opinions out there! For more in-depth info on this product click here

Have a Be YOU tiful Day gorgeous! You’re worth it!
