Happy Fri Yay!!! Isn’t this traffic just lovely in December, Johannesburg is so chill, I love it. No I haven’t gone away, but that’s because I started a new job this year, so I am still accumulating some leave, but next year, it’s on! I hope you are all having an amazing December break thus far.
So Maybelline Matte and Poreless, I purchased the first one when it launched on Zando in September. I know this review is very late, but sometimes when I do a review I don’t like to get ahead of myself, as well we all know our opinions can change over time lol. And this product was so long awaited I wanted to make sure I really loved or hated it before jumping the gun.
I got the shades 220 and 332 because I figured the worst case scenario I would have to mix the 2 or be on either side of the spectrum lol. In the original fit me I would use 310 and 315 but these don’t seem to be available in this line sadly, so still navigating the shade ranges. For reference, I am NC40 in Mac water weight & NC42/NC43 in Mac Studio fix fluid.
Shade range
With the fit me range, you are guaranteed to find a shade that matches. As far as I know, there are about 14 shades available in South Africa. With my golden undertones, I love this range. Usually, I find it so difficult to find olive undertoned foundations in the drugstore, most of them are either very pink or very yellow. I now have about 5 back-ups of this just in case it is discontinued here, like with the original fit me range.
Price
You can’t beat R99.00. I got 2 on sale at Dischem for R89.00 as well. My other favourite foundation is the Rimmel true match and that runs around R119.00 so I can definitely get on board with paying R99.00.
Packaging
Personally, I feel like the tube is so much better than the original glass bottle, mainly because the old packaging doesn’t have a pump and when I am in a rush I always end up pouring out way too much. Also I like to use the products I pay for lol, and when I say use it up, I mean I can cut the end off the tube (if I am in a serious pinch) to get more product out, with a glass bottle I feel like I end up throwing out a lot of foundation too, especially with no pump, because I can usually use the pipe attached to the pump to scrape inside the bottle.
The actual product
By now I am sure you know I have dry skin right? But my goodness does this look amazing! I don’t feel like I am left poreless, even when I use the baby skin primer underneath.However, this is such a comfortable matte foundation and I sometimes forget I am wearing it and end up rubbing my face, yes there is some transfer, it is not bulletproof by any means but it is stunning. If you haven’t tried this yet, you’re definitely missing out ladies and gents… Go and get this now. I didn’t get the powder, but that’s because I was nervous about setting a matte foundation, but I am certainly going to get it now.
- With a luminous primer – Stunning, it’s no longer matte but more satin if you apply a luminous primer, but I love that and that’s my prefered application method.
- With a matte primer – I do feel like it is a bit tighter with a matte primer, not cake faced just drier for sure. But it is still not like when I use the L’oreal Infallible Matte foundation, this one is a lot more comfortable on the skin.
- Liquid Highlighter mixed in – WOW! This is gorgeous, I really love adding a drop or 2 of my temptu highlighter that I received in one of my boxycharm boxes this year.
Overall
I am seriously enjoying this foundation thoroughly. It is affordable so replacing it is no problem at all for me. It sure beats replacing a Clinique or Mac foundation all the time.
