New Years Resolutions 2018

Welcome back everyone and I hope you all had an amazing festive season! This is my first post of 2018 but this year I decided I am writing down my “resolutions” here to ensure it is always in my face and I don’t get sidetracked by life. I wanted to create highly achievable goals for the year, so I did some research on how to set those goals in a constructive way.

Every year we start the year out with “resolutions” and let’s just be real by February those resolutions are out the door. Personally, I believe this happens for many reasons but these are the main ones (for me). Thinking that goals are generic, so for example losing weight or exercising, yes it is important to take care of yourself, but to go all in when you haven’t done it before is kinda silly, no 2 people always have the same schedule. Or saving, yes it is important but every family and their needs are different, I can’t save in the same way a friend with 1 kid can save.

In the end I had to be realistic and honest with myself about what is actually achievable for me and my family. So…

This is the formula I used to set my goals.

S – Specific goals – Be specific about what you would like to achieve (what, why, who, where, which)

M – Measurable – Can you track and measure performance

A – Achievable – Is it attainable (How can I accomplish the goal)

R – Realistic – Do not set your self up for failure (Don’t aim to lose 50kg when you know you work 6days a week and there is no real time for the gym, without affecting other aspects of your life).

T – Timely – creating a realistic timeline for short-term and long-term goals.

So these are my goals and promises to myself for 2018.

  1. Get better at blog planning
  2. Get better at budgeting and sticking to the budget I set
  3. Saving more
  4. Buying less
  5. Working on my self-confidence
  6. Creating new traditions with my family

This year I am choosing to focus on myself and my family. I am choosing not to get sucked into the pressures of social media regarding spending money on things I don’t need. Or concern myself with other peoples drama, if it doesn’t affect me, I don’t care about it.

I am choosing financial freedom, technically, I am almost there but there is more that can be done. This is not to say that at the end of each month I will have thousands left in the bank, what it means for me is that even if at the beginning of the month I have zero rands left but I need NOTHING during the month then I have achieved this goal.

I am choosing a well-balanced and happier family life. Don’t get me wrong my kids are awesome, my husband is my soul mate, the goal here is to get my kids away from the electronics and spend more time either outside or in family settings, teens included.

I am choosing to focus more on my blog and making it successful.

I will keep checking in on this post to make sure that I am at the very least making progress with each goal. I know I left out fitness but I gave up on making that a resolution years ago. I am not about setting myself up for failure so what I will say is I am going to TRY and be a LITTLE more active and eating better this year.

Let me know in the comments what your goals are for 2018?

Lots a love and good luck for the year ahead… Don’t worry I decided 2018 is going to EPIC.

    1. Thanks for tip to keep the old lists, it hadn’t occurred to me… It’s important to monitor progress!!! I love the idea

  2. Get better at blog planning and working on my self-confidence are definitely two goals I share with you! Also – you are so right about setting realisting goals… I think some people kinda forget that..

    1. Perhaps we can cheer each other on throughout the year 😉 … People forget that we are mere mortals, we can only do what we can do…no more no less, and that’s how we set ourselvs up for failure…or at least that used to be me, thinking I can do it all lol

      1. Sure! I’m all for cheering and keeping in each other on track! I used to think I’m a superwoman too when I was younger lol but realized… well, that I am a super woman of course but with a little limited powers lol
